Annual Report

Our Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study (BBS) is held on the first Saturday of the month at 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This is such a vital part of who we are as a Men’s Group. We have a steady attendance of 20-25 men, but with new people coming all the time. Duane Buuck continues to lead the Bible Study and coordinate the volunteers for cooking breakfast. Pastor Phil and Jonathan Isernhagen provide music for the guys to “sing.” In Duane’s words, “The gathering provides an opportunity for gents to get-together once a month for fellowship, good food, and a Bible study focused on exemplary men in the Bible. All gents are welcomed to join the gathering, certain they will be provided with nourishment of body and soul as we share in our faith walk together.”

The Chicken Ministry continues to be supported very well by Calvary members and non-members. On average, we smoke and sell about 85 to 90 chickens per month. In 2010 we added sweet and russet potatoes to the menu along with our own brand of smoked sausage. This year we started producing the sausage ourselves instead of outsourcing it. It has been a lot of fun and a lot of learning for some men, because they had never seen sausage being made. If anyone hasn’t tried our chickens and/or sausage, we hope they will do so the next time we are smoking chickens.

This past November we smoked 80 turkeys and the proceeds went to the 2011 Youth Mission Trip. We were grateful to be able to donate $1,100 to this worthy cause. In December we also smoked and sold 42 hams

Our 2010 West Texas Dove Hunt was very well attended this year. We had 40 attendees, which included 10 father-son combinations, one of which was Pastor Phil and his son Josh, joining us for the first time. I know Pastor Phil and Josh had a blast and plan on attending again next year. What a blessing this man has been to our Men’s Group. Thank you Phil! I also want to say a Texas-sized “THANK YOU” to Mark Etheredge and his family for allowing our group to have this activity for all to enjoy.

I would like to end this report by inviting any Calvary men that have not participated in our activities or projects serving the church and the community to come and experience the fellowship and friendships that are all blessings from God. If we are successful in arranging our next event, a Men’s Group Fishing-Camping Trip in 2011, we can truly and literally say we are “Fishers of Men.”
