Calvary’s many social ministries are where we put “God’s heart, human hands” to work serving our community. Some of the programs where Calvary’s members do great things are:

  • Room in the Inn, Calvary’s ministry for homeless men, providing food, clothing (including handmade bracelets!), and fellowship to homeless men once a week in the hottest and coldest months of the year.
  • WELCA, the Women of ELCA. These women have made hundreds of quilts to contribute to Lutheran World Relief efforts, assembled personal care kits for LWR, filled backpacks with school supplies, and made stockings to support the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. This is one productive group!
  • Presbyterian Night Shelter, a homeless shelter in Fort Worth at which Calvary members volunteer two Fridays a month. Calvary members also make sandwiches once a month for the PNS.
  • Kairos Prison Ministry and Church of the Damascus Road, bringing the message of Christ to men and women in area prisons
  • NEED (North East Emergency Distribution), a local charity that helps provide short term food, clothing, and financial assistance to those in need. There’s also Twice Blessed, a thrift store that provides financial support to NEED
  • Mid-Cities Care Corps, an organization that supports local seniors and helps them preserve their independence.
  • And many others, too!

The members of the Social Ministry committee help ensure that these groups have what they need to continue their good works, recruit new volunteers to these activities, and also look for new opportunities for Calvary members to contribute to the community. We meet the 1st Monday of every month at 6pm in the Library, and are always happy to have new faces and new ideas.

Calvary is doing great things! What can your hands do to help us do the work of God’s heart?
