Council Duties

August 2019

Are you new to the congregation...or have not reviewed the Calvary Constitution (available with login* at calvaryftw.360unite.com: "Council Notebook version 4") and want to know more about the Congregation council?

Read on:
The Congregational Council has general oversight of the life and activities of our congregation. We are your representatives charged with managing our worship life, our mission, long range planning, our pastors and staff, financial activities, committees, and a host of other duties.

The Congregational council at Calvary consists of 15 elected members from the congregation and our two pastors. Usually 5 council members are elected each year. Members are elected for a two year term and can served only four consecutive years. Each year the new council elects a Council President, Vice President and Secretary to serve for one year. Council officers can be reelected every year they serve on council.. These officers oversee the business of the council as well as serve on the Calvary Executive Committee that also includes both Pastors. All additional council members are assigned to serve on the various committees of the congregation.

The Congregational Councils meets monthly for regular meeting and occasionally have additional meetings for specific issues. The council also hosts new member luncheons several time a year and calls ,as well as, conducts various congregational meetings during the year.

Think about serving on council. In the fall our elected Nominating Committee will be interviewing the congregation for nominees. The only requirement is congregational membership. Please consider it.

I am serving my third year as Council President and my fourth year on council. In January 2020 I will step off council. It has been a very rewarding four years for this Western Pennsylvania immigrant.

Thank all y'all for the privilege to serve.

Peace & God Bless, Michael Kammerdiener
